About us
We provide a range of services related to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Across our many forms, we have been undertaking LCA for almost twenty years. We provide a wide range of LCA-related services, including Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and carbon capture due diligence. We not only provide consultancy, but also training, education and workshops.

Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a carbon pricing policy that applies to certain goods imported into the European Union. From 1 January 2026, importers of steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen and electricity are required to account for the carbon emissions embedded in those goods.

Whole Life Carbon Assessment
The RICS Professional Standard for Whole Life Carbon Assessment became mandatory in July 2024. Every compliant built environment project now needs a WLCA. The teams that commission one early get to use it to shape design decisions. The teams that leave it late get a report that confirms decisions already made. We work with architects, engineers, developers and project teams to integrate whole life carbon assessment into design and decision-making from the earliest project stages.

Carbon Capture Due Diligence
Does your carbon capture system remove more than it emits? It sounds like a simple question. In practice, answering it means accounting for every kilogram of CO₂ embedded in a system’s construction, operation, supply chain, and decommissioning, then modelling what happens across multiple real-world scenarios. The Below280 team has been conducting life-cycle assessments of carbon capture technologies since 2012.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is the most credible way a manufacturer can demonstrate the environmental performance of their product. Based on a full life cycle assessment and independently verified before publication, it gives clients, specifiers and procurement teams verified data they can use, not marketing claims they have to take on trust.

EU Battery Regulation Carbon Footprint Declarations
Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 requires mandatory carbon footprint declarations for batteries placed on the EU market. Declarations for EV batteries have been required since February 2025, and for rechargeable industrial batteries above 2 kWh since February 2026. Performance class labelling follows in August 2026, with the digital battery passport becoming mandatory in February 2027. Below280 produces compliant battery carbon footprint studies for manufacturers globally, combining rigorous LCA methodology with genuine technical knowledge of battery

Life Cycle Assessment
LCA analyses environmental impacts across the full supply chain of a product or service, from raw material extraction through to end of life. Done well, it identifies where in the supply chain the damage occurs and what can be done about it, not just whether something is environmentally damaging overall.
