Rajesh Nair joined Tata Steel UK in October 2021 as Chief Operating Officer, subsequently being appointed as Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel UK in May 2023.

An electrical engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Rajesh has over 36 years of experience with Tata Steel in various functions, including Maintenance, Projects and Operations, both in Long and Flat Products.

Rajesh has held many senior positions in Tata Steel. He served as Chief of Manufacturing for Flat Products in Jamshedpur, overseeing operations of 6.4Mtpa of flat steel production facility at Jamshedpur, and later served as the Chief of Marketing & Sales for automotive steels. Rajesh was Co-Chair of the Bearings Profit Centre Council, and a member of the Profit Centre Councils of the Global Wires as well as the Steel Recycling Business of Tata Steel. Currently, he sits on the Boards of Tata Steel UK and Cogent Power Limited UK, and is the Chair of the Board of Surahammars Bruks, Sweden.

Rajesh led on the development of the Cold Rolling Mill complex at Jamshedpur subsequently running the operations. He led the automotive galvanised process and product development and was responsible for the introduction of indigenous ‘galvannealed’ products in India. During his extensive career, Rajesh has been actively involved in a large number of change initiatives in the company, including the Corus Group integration into Tata Steel, along with the associated PITs (Process Improvement Team), GECs (Global Expert Committee), the Group Technology programme, and the thyssenkrupp technical due diligence.

A Fulbright Scholar, Rajesh studied at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University and participated on the General Management Program at CEDEP, Insead. He has completed the Group’s Strategic Leadership and Executive Leadership Programmes, has many technical papers to his credit and co-holds two patents in the area of galvanised products. Rajesh was awarded the ‘Steel Eighties Award’ by the Indian Institute of Metals for original contributions in the field of metallurgy.

He is a member of World Steel Association’s Product Sustainability Committee (PSCO) as well as on WorldAutoSteel. He also is a member of the India Institute of Metals.
