Tat-Hean Gan

Director of Applied Research and Professor of Structural Integrity

Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST).

Professor Tat-Hean Gan represents the Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST), one of the world’s largest light-metal hubs, uniting fundamental solidification science with pilot-scale twin-roll, direct-chill, semisolid and squeeze-casting lines.

He leads the introduction of sensor-enabled, AI-driven process control, embedding advanced ultrasonics and real-time analytics into alloy-design and melt-conditioning platforms. This closed-loop strategy delivers lighter, fully recyclable aluminium and magnesium components for automotive, aerospace and circular-economy markets. He has secured and steered Horizon Europe and Innovate UK consortia that pair BCAST’s metallurgy expertise with industrial partners across the supply chain.

Author of 250 + papers and three patents in ultrasonics, AI analytics and structural-health monitoring, he provides the scientific backbone for BCAST’s global collaborations by positioning the centre at the forefront of sustainable, high-performance metal manufacturing.
